How to Spot a Phishing Email in 2022

The Treasure Valley technology company will bring its operations under one roof at 1420 E Bird Dog Drive, where site work is now underway

MERIDIAN, Idaho — June 24, 2026 — Allied Business Solutions, a leading managed technology services provider in the Treasure Valley, has announced plans for a new headquarters at 1420 E Bird Dog Drive in Meridian, Idaho. The site sits next to Vertical View Climbing Gym along Interstate 84, between Locust Grove and Overland Road. A construction sign now marks the lot as site preparation gets underway.

The new building will bring Allied's warehouse, distribution center, and company departments together under one roof. It is designed around the parts of the business Allied is investing in most: its managed IT and security services, its growing AI and automation work, and the national distribution of printers, copiers, and multifunction devices through its network of manufacturer partners.

"This building represents everything we have worked toward since day one. We started this company in Boise because we believed in this community, and this community has believed in us. Seeing that sign go up on our new lot is one of the proudest moments in Allied's history."

A Company Built on Service and Growth

Tom Beeles founded Allied Business Solutions in 2003 with a simple idea: build a technology company that treats clients like neighbors and employees like family.

Over the past 23 years, Allied has grown from a single Boise office into a regional company with five locations across Idaho, Oregon, and Utah, serving clients from Boise to Salt Lake City. The company has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the country, recognized as a Top Company in the Treasure Valley by the Idaho Business Review, and named a Best Place to Work in Idaho. Toshiba has given Allied its ProMasters Award several times, and Xerox has named the company a Diamond Solutions Dealer, among the highest honors each manufacturer awards its partners.

Of course, it’s an obvious scam, however, studies show that most of us are overconfident in our ability to detect phishing scams. Almost all phishing attacks start with an innocuous email, and hackers today are becoming much more sophisticated.

Phishing ranks as the second most expensive cause of data breaches. – IBM, Cost of a Data Breach Report 2021

Here are 10 signs to look for in 2022 that can help you detect a phishing scam!

  1. COVID-19 Information – Ever since the beginning of the COVID pandemic through to the return to normalcy hackers have been scamming people out of personal information through COVID-related hoaxes. Watch for subject lines promoting vaccine requirements or registration information.
  1. Unexpected Attachments – Never open an attachment you were not expecting, even if it’s from someone you know. This is a typical tactic for phishing scams.
  1. Inconsistent URLs – If a web address within an email is different when you hover over it, it’s likely an attempt to hack your system.
  1. Action Required Scams – Emails claiming you need to update your account or password are a classic scam attempt to gain personal information. Most legitimate companies never request login or personal information or via email!
  1. Misspellings or Poor Grammar – An email riddled with obvious grammar and spelling mistakes should raise a red flag. The email is probably a phishing scam.
  1. Something is “Strange” – If you often receive emails from a certain company, and they suddenly show up looking different such as a change in formatting or logos, be careful, it could be a phishing scam.
  1. W2 / 1099 Requests – Phishing is prevalent around tax time. These emails often look like they come from your HR department, or a high-level executive.
  1. An Email from Your Company CEO – Hackers are becoming masterful at researching high-level personnel and impersonating them. Never release information, or funds without verification!
  1. You Won! – If you didn’t enter a contest, you probably didn’t win! Scam alert!
  1. Desperate Emails – When a random email arrives with a sense of urgency saying your “immediate action” is required it’s often a sign something is up. Log into your account from a separate browser, not from an email link.

Educate your team to recognize the signs. If you receive an email that looks suspicious, don’t open it! Never click or download attachments, don’t reply, and inform your IT department right away.
